Hi! I’m Sky, a native English speaker from the UK currently living in Taipei. I have a BA in Chinese and International Relations and an MA in Translation, and I have over three years of professional experience working with English and Chinese. I specialise in helping students become more confident and natural when using English. I’m particularly interested in one-to-one lessons for adults and university students, whether you want to improve your conversation skills, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, writing or professional English. Having studied Chinese myself, I understand how challenging English can be for Chinese-speaking learners, and I’m patient and happy to explain things clearly when something is confusing. My professional experience editing English translations has also given me a very strong eye for grammar, accuracy and natural-sounding English. I want lessons to feel relaxed and practical rather than like another school class. My approach is to introduce new concept with real examples so that learning becomes intresting and easier for students. I encourage students to do Brainstorming instead of just giving them in order to make them able to solve such further problems on their own.

I am an experienced and committed educator most recently working as Head of the EAL Department at a secondary academy in Essex. I hold a current, Enhanced DBS certificate. I am passionate about supporting young people who face barriers to learning and enabling them to achieve their potential through high-quality teaching, inclusive practice, and strong pastoral support. As EAL lead, I was responsible for the planning and delivery of high-quality teaching, learning and assessment for EAL students. This included developing Schemes of Work, preparing engaging and differentiated lessons, assessing student progress and providing targeted feedback to support improvement. My cohort included students with SEN and SEMH needs, who required carefully adapted teaching approaches and strong pastoral awareness. Through this work, I have developed extensive experience supporting learners aged 11–18 who are disadvantaged or who face significant barriers to engagement and academic success. Furthermore, I have privately tutored French and English to children and adults since 2010. My experience working with students who face complex challenges has strengthened my ability to support learners with additional needs.
